Monthly Minutes of the Circus City Cyclists

Place:  First Christian Church, Peru, Indiana

Time:  7:30 p.m.

Leader:  Bill Click, President

Present:  6 members total, 3 officers

Absent:  Treasurer Chris Betzner is on duty at station 2

Meeting Minutes:  July minutes were submitted by Jane Mannies and approved.

Treasury report:  No income or outgoing expenses for this month.  Chris is on duty and will bring treasures report at next meeting.

Communications:  No new communications

Discussion:

Metric Century:  Bob Blong was not present, but Miles stated that Bob suggested that we start working on a date for the ride tonight.  Miles made a motion after some discussion to have the ride on June 28th of 2003.  Jane followed with all approving.  Bob Blong will be chairperson for the 2003 Metric Century ride only if committees are formed.  This is needed because it is too much for 1 person to do.

Nickel Plate Trail:  We had a booth during Denver days with Jane Mannies and Dick Sschaffenhausen working in the booth on Saturday.  There was nobody to work it on Sunday so Jane Mannies took the material to her house and took the tent down.  We all agreed that we need to have a booth and man it better during Heritage days.  Bill will send this request when he e-mails the members the minutes.  Mike Donaldson said that he could make a brochure for us to hand out at Heritage Days if he gets some material on the trail.  Mike Kuepper and Bill Click both said they will e-mail info to Mike, and Jane Mannies told Mike to stop by Dr. Musselman’s office in Denver where she works, and she will give him trail info to use.  Mike Donaldson will get with Bill Click if he has any questions.  Miles made a motion to approve $50.00 for material for these brochures.

Harry Denham graded and cleared a portion of the trail on Wallick Road.  Once the Friends of the Nickel Plate have approval from the DNR, cleanup of debris under the Wabash River Bridge will begin.  Jane Mannies reported that she has had an individual volunteer his time and bring in his bulldozer to smooth out and remove some stumps from the trail in Denver.  It can then be mowed on a regular basis.  This is saving the organization $1,600.00.  This individual is Kendall Hattery.

Membership renewal & new members:  No activity.

Web site report:  Dave Sutton will be helping Mike Donaldson get this going.  Mike has started working on it and stated he will talk with Bill Click after he talks more with Dave Sutton.  Miles suggested once it is up and going that we talk to area Chambers and have them put us as a link on their site.

Heritage Days Ride:  For the second year in a row, the club will be having a ride to Lost Bridge across the Eel River near Denver, during Heritage Days.  The ride will be on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.  The ride is open to the public and will be listed in the paper along with other activities that will be held during the festival.  All club members are asked to bring an old/spare helmet to share with a rider that shows up for the ride without a helmet.

Xenia Ride:  Bill and Cathy Click were the only members to go on this ride.  Bill stated it was a very nice ride.

Club Picnic:  Jane Mannies reported that the picnic would be held at Linda Mc’Coys house on Sunday September 8th.  Time and more details will be sent out to members after the 15th of August.

New discussion:  Mike Kuepper stated that the Indiana Department of Commerce publishes a booklet with several trails throughout Indiana in it-free of charge.  He suggested that we get together with the Miami County Historical Society and maybe some other community minded organizations to come up with a Miami County bike trail/historical motor route.  We could work on this together with the other group(s) and submit it to be published in the brochure.  We will discuss more next month.

Hill Hundred:  Miles stated that if anyone wants to camp at his sister’s house, they are welcome to.  He asks that you please notify him in advance so he can let his sister know how many people to expect.  So far Miles, Alex, Bob, and Rich are going for sure.
