Information on the  Mid America Trails and Greenways Conference.  3. IBC proof for CC Metric Century ad.  4. IBC upcoming Annual business meeting letter.

Discussion:

Preservation Of Iron Bridges: Dr. Don Musselman asked the club if they would be interested in submitting a letter along with a few other clubs in the area supporting three iron bridges in northern Miami County.  It was agreed this would be in the interest of the bike club, so a motion was made by Mike Kuepper and 2nd by Rich Holler to submit a letter of support from the club.  Miles Straly was asked to write the letter on behalf of the club, he agreed to do so.  Also, a current club roster will be supplied along with the letter of support.

Metric Century Report: (Chris Betzner) Things that need to be settled in the next month are the route design, brochure proof and contacting county highway officials.  Bill Click said he would take care of contacting county highway officials to find out about any road or bridge work that may be scheduled.  Letters have been sent out to county officials such as Peru Mayor and others.  Modern Graphics printed the brochures last year, it was suggested they be approached for this year’s printing.

Ideas for the t-shirts will need to be decided soon.  Dick Schaffhausen said he would take care of getting the printing of the shirts arranged with A & A Screen Printing.

Chris Betzner said he would get with Bob Blong and Miles Straly on the brochure design and have a proof for our March meeting.  This would be so we could have brochures printed and ready for mailing by the end of March.

Nickel Plate Trail Report: (Mike Kuepper) Work is ongoing for the Friends of the Nickel Plate Trail to organize as a not-for-profit organization.  This should be accomplished soon and would allow for the eventual ownership of the trail to be local.

Work this next summer will concentrate on the area between Rochester and Deedsville.  This would include clearing of brush and trees and grading.  Friends of the Nickel Plate are looking for groups and individuals who are interested in helping with this year’s trail work.

2003 Ride Schedule:  A preliminary schedule has been setup as follows:

Thursday Ride - meeting at Miami’s Fort at 6:00PM - first ride April the 3rd

Ride Leader – Looking for someone

Saturday Ride - meeting at Breakaway at 8:00AM - first ride April the 5th

Ride Leader - Chris Betzner or someone from the shop

Sunday Ride - meeting at Owen’s Marathon in Mexico at 2:00PM - first ride April the 6th

It was also discussed to include Wheel People’s Tuesday night ride as club miles and encourage people to attend.  Mike Donaldson will be getting with Bob & Betty Lee or Linda McCoy to get more details about this ride.

Membership Renewals & New Member Report: Chris & Janet Betzner, Don Guy, Greg Heins, Brendan & Agnes Kenny, Mike Kuepper, Robert & Betty Lee, Jeff Laycock, David Mann, Max Reed, and, Ernie Strawn.  Currently the club is about 51% renewed based on last year’s membership numbers.  This represents all the renewals since the first of the year.

Web Site Report: (Mike Donaldson) The old site was shut down sometime around January the 22nd.  Currently the old site will continue to show up on web search engines, however it should clear out of the searches eventually.  The new site is already beginning to show up in searches on some of the more popular sites.  Approximately (40) e-mails have been sent out to web sites and webmasters to ask them to update their links to our new site and to ask them to show our Metric Century information.

Upcoming plans include a Nickel Plate Trail page for news and photos.  Some things that were also discussed was the possibility of running a few articles from previous club newsletters on the site’s News page or maybe having a Classifieds page.  It was mentioned during the discussion that the previous site had a Classifieds page, however it was rarely used.

2003 Nominating Committee Report: (Chris Betzner / Miles Straly) No more candidates had been located for club president.  Bill Click stated that he would be willing to continue as president since the secretary duties had been turned over to Mike Donaldson.  He did state that this would be his LAST year as club president.

A motion was made with 2nd and unanimous vote to accept Bill Click as President, Rich Holler as Vice President, Chris Betzner as Treasurer and Mike Donaldson as Secretary.

Special Rides: There was an open discussion about the club sponsoring a special ride each month during our riding season this year.  Possible rides that were mentioned was a night ride, a ride around the Wabash County Trail, RAIN (Ride Across Indiana) ride, riding the Metric Century route, and the Heritage Days ride.

Meeting was adjourned.
