Monthly Minutes of the Circus City Cyclists

Date: November 8, 2005 Meeting

Attendance:  Bob Blong (President), Miles Straly (Secretary), Chris Betzner (Treasurer), Janet Betzner, Adam Betzner, Bill Click

Communications:  None

October Minutes:  Read by Miles Straly and accepted as presented.

Treasurer’s Report:  Reported by Chris Betzner.  Balance available by contacting Chris.  Income for past month was $0.  Expenses were $150 to Peru Rotary Club for Cole Porter Run sponsorship and $37 for stamps.  $131 outstanding bill to IBC from Metric Century will be paid by Chris.

2006 Meeting Dates:  Motion made by Miles and seconded by Bill to move the CCC monthly meeting dates to the second Thursday of each month starting in January 2006.  Motion passed.  Meeting time will remain at 7:30 p.m. Please note the December 2005 meeting will remain on the second Tuesday of December.

2005 Weekly Club Rides:  It was decided to continue Saturday and Sunday rides for now at the same starting times and places.  These rides will take place if weather conditions permit and if ride leaders Rich and Wally desire to continue them.  Saturday’s ride will remain with a start time of 8:30 a.m.   Sunday’s ride will remain at 1:30 p.m.  It was recognized that at some point in the near future a later start on Saturday might be desired.  If it is formally changed regular riders will be notified and the information will be available at the Breakaway Bike Shop.

2006 Officer Slate:  Possible names were mentioned for officers, but recruiting for the President/Vice President positions will continue.  The election of officers is planned for the December meeting.

Possible New Meeting Dates:  It is recognized that the second Tuesday of each month is not the optimum date for several of our members to meet.  Dates favored by those in attendance were Thursdays, with the second Thursday of each month being slightly favored.  We would really like to increase attendance at meetings and ask club members to send their inputs about dates that would work best.  A vote will be taken at the next meeting to select the new dates.

Fall/Winter Rides:  In addition to our Saturday and Sunday club rides we will support the Polar Bear ride in Kokomo on Jan 1.  It will be our official kick-off of the 2006 season and club miles will be awarded to club members who ride in it.  This ride has a mass start at 9:30 a.m.  The registration fee is $12, if made before Dec 12.  Contact Betty Lee at (574) 699-6825 or bettyjolee@att.net for registration or information.

Nickel Plate Trail Report:  (Miles/Bill)  All bridges between the Wabash River and the bridge North of  Bunker Hill have been completed.  The trail has been completely cleared and graded from Wallick Road to CR 500S.   Gaunt, Inc., from Wabash , plans to lay the base of gravel and initial two inches of asphalt starting next week on Phase I.  A final top-coat of asphalt will be applied in the Spring.  Mimi Berkshire has scheduled a community walk on this portion of the trail on the morning of Nov 26.  Bill Click continues final touches on the Birmingham Bridge .  Minor vandalism has happened near CR 300S and at Birmingham .  Authorities have been notified.  The “Squiggle” bridge supports were damaged in an automobile accident, but the road beneath the bridge is still open.  The county appears to be ready to help us if we decide to replace that bridge with a prefab pedestrian bridge.

Fall Dinner/Awards Banquet:  This event will be held at the Peru Civic Center at 7:00 p.m., Friday, Nov 11.  The club will pay for the meal.  The itinerary of the evening includes dinner, a review of 2005 CCC activities, formal awards, bike trivia quiz, door prizes, and announcements.  Applications will be available for club membership renewal for 2006.  RSVPs are due to Miles at 472-2273 by noon on Thursday.  So far, 30 people are signed up.

Other Business:  Bill brought up the topic of the skateboard park and wondered if CCC could get involved in some way to get the initiative started again.  It was discussed and we decided to talk about it some more at the next meeting.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. by the President.  The next meeting, including club elections, will take place at the First Christian Church, Peru , at 7:30 p.m., December 13.

Respectfully submitted,

Miles Straly, Secretary
