Monthly Minutes of the Circus City Cyclists

Date: October 11, 2005 Meeting

Attendance:  Bob Blong (President), Miles Straly (Secretary), John Miller, Wally Woodhams

Communications:  Received a letter from Mike Kuepper requesting CCC to sponsor a “mile-marker” for the Peru Rotary Club’s “Cole Porter Classic Run.”  The cost of the donation is $150.00 and all proceeds will go toward completing the Nickel Plate Trail.  Motion by Miles Straly and second by Bob Blong to support this event.  All members present voted in favor.  Miles will ask Treasurer, Chris Betzner, to forward a check for $150.00 to the Peru Rotary Club.

September Minutes:  Read by Miles Straly and accepted as presented.

Treasurer’s Report:  No report as the treasurer was absent.

2005 Club Miles:  Mike Donaldson has updated the website with club miles through the end of September.  The number of miles ridden on club rides (and reported) is approaching 5,000 for the year.  We are well ahead of last year’s figures with three months of riding remaining.  A reminder to all ride leaders – Please forward all ride miles to Miles and he will pass them on to Mike for inclusion on the website.

2005 Special Rides:  Three riders, Wally, Ron, and Miles completed the Cardinal Trail ride on Oct 1.  They logged 101 miles and had a great time on a beautiful cycling day.  Those wishing to ride the Hilly Hundred are invited to meet at Miles’ home at noon on Friday, Oct 14, to caravan down.  Lodging will be provided for those who wish to join us.  The Wabash County Trail ride will depart the Breakaway Bike Shop at 8:30 a.m. on Oct 22.  (Note this is a different time and departure location from that planned in last month’s meeting minutes.)

2005 Weekly Club Rides:  It was decided to terminate the Thursday ride after the ride on Oct 13.  All club members who can make it are invited to meet at Miami ’s Fort at 5:00 p.m. on the 13th for a short ride, followed by a meal together.  Saturday’s club rides will be moved to a start time of 8:30 a.m. beginning this week.  Sunday’s ride will remain at 1:00 p.m.  Our intention is to make the Saturday and Sunday rides available through the end of the year, weather permitting.

2006 Officer Slate:  Several names were discussed as possible officers for 2006.  John Miller will contact these and report back at the November meeting.  The election of officers is planned for the December meeting.

Possible New Meeting Dates:  It is recognized that the second Tuesday of each month is not the optimum date for several of our members to meet.  Dates favored by those in attendance were Thursdays, with the second Thursday of each month being slightly favored.  We would really like to increase attendance at meetings and ask club members to send their inputs about dates that would work best.  A vote will be taken at the next meeting to select the new dates.

Nickel Plate Trail Report:  (Miles)  Two of the bridges between Wallick Road and CR 400S have been decked completed in the past few weeks.  Plans are to complete two more in the next month.  This will mean every bridge between the Wabash River and the bridge North of  Bunker Hill will be completed.  The bid of Gaunt, Inc. has been accepted to complete Phase 1, which is the laying of asphalt from Wallick Road to at least CR 400 S and possibly further.  Gaunt will possibly be able to lay the first coat yet this fall.  Bill Click has finished the bridge at Birmingham .

Fall Get-together:  The club will have its annual fall get-together/dinner on November 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Peru Civic Center .  John moved, Miles seconded, and a unanimous vote was taken for the club to pay for the meals.  A complete two meat dinner will be served by the staff of the Civic Center .  All club members and their families are invited to attend.  Please RSVP to Miles by phone or e-mail with the number of family members who will attend NLT Nov 4.  Accurate numbers are needed to be given to the Civic Center .  Besides the meal, plans are to present prizes and play some games.

Other Business:  It was decided the Polar Bear Ride in Kokomo on January 1 will be a designated club ride and the kick-off of the 2006 cycling season.  Hopefully several members can participate.  More details will be sent to members in December.

Next Meeting:  Tues, November 8, 7:30 p.m., First Christian Church

Respectfully Submitted,

Miles Straly, 472-2273
