Monthly Minutes of the Circus City Cyclists

Date:  Thursday, January 12, 2006

President Miles Straly called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

Attendance:  Mike Donaldson, Miles Straly, Bob Blong, Chris Betzner, Adam Betzner, and Rochelle Bowyer (new member).

Communications:  IBC sent us a thank you letter for the $131 we sent them for having us as a featured ride in last year’s IBC calendar.  They also mentioned many of the accomplishments IBC has made for bicycling in Indiana in the past year.

Secretary’s report (Bob):  Last month’s meeting was very short and consisted primarily of election of officers.  New officers for 2006 are Miles Straly – President, John Miller – Secretary, and Chris Betzner – Treasurer.  Vice President is currently open and the club is seeking a volunteer for this position.

Treasurer’s report (Chris):  All bills have been paid and club’s financial status is in good shape.  Monthly income was from six member renewals.  Expenses included the club’s winter dinner/awards banquet and the previously mentioned IBC expense.  Our current balance on hand is $5,183.22. Report approved as presented.

2006 Metric Century (Miles):  This year’s Metric Century will be June 10 and will be a part of the Peru/Miami County Summerfest and Cole Porter Festival.

Organization for this year’s event will consist of an overall Ride Coordinator (Miles Straly) and eight committees.  Committee chairmen will be Roads and Mapping (Bill Click), Sponsorship (Rochelle Bowyer), Supplies (Miles Straly), and Volunteers (Chris Betzner).  Other committees will be Publicity, Food & Drink, SAGs, and Shirts.  These four committees each need a volunteer to chair them.  Miles passed a list of duties for each committee to all members present.

A discussion ensued about doing a cooperative effort with the Relay for Life in this year’s event.  It was generally agreed that this cooperation would enhance both organization’s efforts.  Chris moved and Mike seconded a motion to make the 2006 Metric Century an equal partnership between CCC and Relay for Life.  Net profits will be split equally between the two groups.  Motion passed unanimously.

Upcoming tasks to be completed in the next month include listing the ride on the Bike Event Calendar for the Indiana Bicycle Coalition and sending out letters to various agencies.  Deadlines were set of Feb 28 to secure major sponsors (at least $300 in goods or services) and May 1 for general sponsors (at least $100).   The ride brochure is to be completed by mid-March.  CCC will have one person attend Summerfest planning meetings when possible.  Bob moved and Chris seconded a motion to not list our Metric Century as an IBC featured ride this year, thus saving the club money.  Motion passed.  A possible t-shirt design was discussed.   The closing of the Lewisburg Bridge over the Wabash River will probably necessitate a route change this year.  Miles mentioned the desire to include part of the Nickel Plate Trail in the ride, provided it is paved.  It is also desired to use the SAG site above the Mississinewa Dam this year.

2006 Memberships (Miles):  Miles will be sending a letter and membership application to all members who have not already renewed their membership for the year.

2006 Ride Schedule:  It was tentatively decided to retain the 5 p.m. Thurs, 8 a.m. Sat, and 1:30 p.m. Sun ride schedule.  We will determine if a later start on Sunday might work out best for the majority of riders.  Bob would like to have an early Sun morning fast ride.  Details to be worked out.  It was discussed whether a later start to the season (like Apr 15) might work out best weather-wise.  We will decide on that at subsequent meetings.  We discussed the desire to have more lady riders to join the weekly club rides.

Possible “Special Club” Sponsored Activities:  The club will endeavor to participate more this year in May’s special focus as Fitness and Bicycling Month.  We may have a “Ride Your Bike to Work” emphasis.  We may sponsor a rider in the Habitat for Humanity bicycle ride.  Rich Holler will be looking at bicycle rides outside our general area that we can attend en mass and count for club mileage.

Other Business:  None

The meeting concluded at 8:35 p.m.  The next club meeting will be Thursday, Feb 9, at 7:30 p.m.

Submitted,

Miles Straly, acting Secretary
