Monthly Minutes of the Circus City Cyclists

Date:  Thursday, May 11, 2006

President Miles Straly called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

Attendance:    Miles Straly, Bob Blong, Alex Blong, Kamon Blong, Wally Woodhams, Rich Holler, Rochelle Bowyer, Zach See, Shannon See.

Communications:  None

Secretary’s report (Miles):  April’s minutes were read by Miles.  Secretary John Miller was not present.

Treasurer’s report (Zach):  A current balance of $5,570.22 was reported.  $350 has been paid to purchase helmets for the annual Kid’s Fair.  Zach has taken over all Treasurer’s duties from Chris Betzner now.

Membership report:  We are not certain how many club members we currently have and will ask John to report on that at next month’s meeting.

Nickel Plate Trail report:  The 3.4 mile section from Wallick Road to C.R. 500S has been paved and is receiving rave reviews from users.  Everyone at the meeting has walked, run, or ridden on the trail since it opened.  Three of the four bridges between 300S and 400S have been completed (widened and side rails installed) by Harry Denham, Dennis Shirley, and a group from the Miami Correctional Institution.  A trail head parking lot has been completed on Wallick Road.  A grand opening ceremony with ribbon-cutting is scheduled for Jun 9, 9:00 a.m., as a part of the Cole Porter Summerfest.  (Note:  At a NPT meeting on May 15, the grand opening was moved to July 8.  Activities on that day will include a 10 K run at 7:00 a.m. and a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.  More details will be released as the date gets closer.)

Miami County Kids’ Fair:  Zach reported a good turn out and successful event.  200 helmets were given out.

Metric Century:

Shirt Design:  Ginger at AA Screen Printing was asked to try to come up with an alternate shirt design.  Due to time constraints she was only able to do a rough draft of an elephant.  Members voted unanimously to select the completed design of a monkey riding a bicycle.

Sponsorship Report:  Sponsors have all been contacted.  Miles and Rochelle will get with AA Screen Printing to ensure all sponsor logos are included on the ride shirt.

Food & Drink Committee Report:  Rochelle reported that Sonic will provide free ice as they did last year.  Harveys will provide cookies and trail mix as in the past and will have their logo on the left sleeve of the shirts.  Miles will meet with Rochelle and her committee 1-2 weeks prior to the event to finalize food and drink requirements.

SAG Committee:  We still need volunteers to man the various SAGs.  Please contact Miles if you have a particular SAG you would like to work.

Routes and Mapping:  Miles will meet with Bill on May 13 to go over the route.  Bill will coordinate with Smith’s Office Supply to provide maps and with Arnie’s Ace to supply paint for marking the routes.

Entertainment:  Dave Sullivan has indicated his willingness to work the Mississinewa Observation Pavilion.  Zach will check with Chris on the entertainment at Pipe Creek Falls.

Club Mileage:  It was decided to award credit for club mileage for any club members who ride in the CC Metric Century.

Publicity:  No report

Weekly Ride Status Update:  We have had disappointing turnouts for most of our club rides so far.  Ideas were discussed to try to boost the number of riders.  Wally will move the Thursday ride up to 4:00 p.m. to try to accommodate a group of lady riders who may be interested in riding with us.

Other Rides:  Miles reported on the possibility of riding the Little Miami Trail in Ohio in early July.  Tentative dates would be July 1-3.  Campgrounds in the area are available at a very nominal price.  Rich will look further into the possibility of a club ride in Parke County later in the summer.  Wally reported on a bicycle race around Bass Lake on July 26 that might be of interest to the club.  Relay for Life is looking for volunteers to ride a spinner bike on Jun 16-17.

Other Business:  None

The meeting concluded at 8:35 p.m.  The next club meeting will be Thursday, Jun 8, at 7:30 p.m.  The bulk of that meeting will be to complete final preparations for the Metric Century ride.

Respectfully Submitted,

Miles Straly, acting Secretary
