Monthly Minutes of the Circus City Cyclists

Date:  Thursday, October 19, 2006

President Miles Straly called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

Attendance:   Miles Straly, Sharon Johnston, Bob Blong, Zac See, Rich Holler, and John Miller.

Communication:  The Indiana Bicycle Coalition sent a thank you to the club for promoting this year’s Metric Century with them.

Secretary’s Report (John):  Minutes were read from September meeting.

Treasurer’s Report:  Zac reported that the club had given a check to Relay For Life in the amount of $200.00 from our metric century proceeds.  Zac has received $17.00 at Breakaway Bike Shop from the sale of leftover tee shirts from the century.  There are about 50 shirts left, available for $3.75 in US currency at Breakaway, just in time for Christmas shopping.

Miami County Trail:  Miles talked to people at the museum who are open to the meeting to establish a Miami County Trail.  There is a Cole Porter trail in place now for automobiles.  The tourism bureau will be contacted and a meeting will be set up.  It would be similar to the Wabash County Trail.

Ride Routes:  Roadie Rich Holler brought up that it would be good to have coordinates listed for maps for future use.  If you would like to map out a favorite ride, please bring copies in to Breakaway or get to John Miller for distribution.

Club Jerseys:  Zac will talk to Sugoi or another jersey supplier as a source for club jerseys available in the spring.  Bob suggested local businesses be contacted to help underwrite the costs.

Club rides:  Will continue at the same times and places.  Saturday at 8:00 AM at the shop, Sunday at 2:00 PM at Owens’ Marathon in Mexico and Thursday at 4:00 PM at Miami’s Fort.  Club miles will accumulate through the end of the year.  Sharon will lead a ride, “For Ladies Only”, next spring.

Zac suggested a casual “jeans and sneakers” ride for the novice bike rider.  We discussed having a cookout at Miami’s Fort and ride along the Nickel Plate Trail.

A night ride along the trail was also brought up as a good idea.

Fat Tire Ride:  This Saturday, October 21, we will trade our skinny tires in for the fat knobbies.  At least four of us are planning to go to Winona Lake to ride on the dirt trails at The Boys’ Club.  It is 10 miles of fun on the dirt.  We will meet at Miami’s Fort at 8:00 AM and drive to Warsaw.

Nickel Plate Trail:  Update from Miles that during the Cole Porter run 180 runners traversed the new trail.  The next phase for April 2007 is paving from Bunker Hill south to Miami or even to Bennett’s Switch if funds allow.  The big grant will be used to cross the Wabash River to the River Walkway and a spur to 7th St. Another phase is Lover’s Lane north to Denver.

Miles mentioned that the trees jammed at the trestles at the Wabash River Bridge have been cleared away.

Slate of Officers:  The next club meeting will be Thursday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. for the 2007 elections.  We have nominated the following officers:

          President:              Miles Straly

          Vice-President:          Sharon Johnston

          Treasurer:             Zac See

          Secretary:              John Miller

If there are others who would like to run in the November election, please attend the November meeting.  There will be no meeting in December.

Upcoming Events:  Polar Bear ride in Kokomo on January 1, 2007.

Bicycle (use it as an action verb),

John Miller

Secretary
