Miami County Trail:  There is a meeting scheduled with the Chamber of Commerce, CCC and the Historical Society/Museum at the museum at 1:00 PM, Tues. the 24th.  Miles, John, Wally and Jeff Bingham plan to attend.  Other club members are welcome.  The goal is to produce a flyer for the Miami County Trail.

Club rides:  The ride schedule is as follows:

Saturday:  8:00 AM from Breakaway Bike Shop in Peru

Sunday:    1:00 PM from Owen’s Marathon in Mexico

Thursday:  5:00 PM from Miami ’s Fort in Peru

Monon Trail Ride:  The best date looks to be Saturday, May 12 for a trip to Indy in place of our regular Saturday club ride.  The plan is to meet at Miami ’s Fort for our road trip to Indy for an approximate 30-35 mile ride to include the Monon Trail.  If you are interested, please contact Miles.

“Go fast” ride:  Miles suggested prior to the meeting that those cyclists who enjoy a quicker pace set a published ride time for any who are interested and able.  Bob Blong was mentioned as a possible ride leader who could send a list of riders, miles and dates to Mike Donaldson to count toward club miles.

Kokomo Time Trial:  Rich mentioned that the Breakaway Bicycle Club in Kokomo has a time trial that we may want to participate in.  The time trial schedule is available from Zac at Breakaway shop in Peru .

Nickel Plate Trail:  Progress on several fronts.  Harry Denham has purchased materials to complete the bridge at 800N.  Bill Click and others have done a lot of trail clearing to the north.  There was also a $3,500 grant to be given.

Club Jerseys:  Tomorrow (April 20) is the deadline to get your order in to Zac See at Breakaway Bike Shop in Peru .  His e-mail is zacsee2000@yahoo.com or telephone him at the shop to let him know what items you want and the sizes.  I have attached pictures of the apparel.  Jerseys are $45, shorts are $48, socks are $5.95 and caps are $8.  The caps will be white instead of black as shown.

Upcoming Events:  KIDS FAIR BIKE RODEO is at the Miami County Fairgrounds on May 5th from 10:00-2:00 with the bike auction at 9:00 AM.  The BMX flatlanders trick bike riders will be there again this year and many fun activities are scheduled for the kids (including bicycle safety training).  Volunteers to help fit helmets or repair bikes should contact Zac at Breakaway.  Pass the word to the kids you know as it is a fun day and they get a free helmet.

Community bike ride:  The Mayor’s Wellness Council is sponsoring a community bike ride on April 28 at 1:00 PM.  The start will be at the K-Mart parking lot and the ride will be on the Nickel Plate Trail.  Refreshments will be served afterwards at Exotic Tan.

Mini-triathlon:  The Mayor’s Wellness Council is planning a mini-triathlon on June 16th to include the swim at Miller’s Pool and run and bicycle from Maconaquah Park .  If you have questions re either of the two Mayor’s Wellness Council events, check the website www.cityofperu.org or contact Shannon See at Breakaway or e-mail her at sstoner@hotmail.com

Fatandskinnytirefest.com:  This bicycle festival at Winona Lake looks to be a lot of fun.  We were told the date is May 4, 5 and 6 but check out the website to be sure.

Morris Lake Race:  Coming up soon in May.

The Great Race:  Pro level bicycle races and criteriums held in Goshen and Elkhart over Memorial Day weekend.
