Monthly Minutes of the Circus City Cyclists

Date:  Thursday, Aug 9, 2007 at the First Christian Church

Secretary John Miller called the meeting to order at 7:50 p.m.

Attendance:   VP Sharon Johnston, Secy. John Miller, Rich Holler, Wally Woodhams, and Bill Click.

Secretary’s Report:  We did not read minutes of July meeting.

Treasurer’s Report:  Zac was not present and no report available.

MiCounty Trail:  Next meeting will be late September at the museum’s request.

RAIN Ride:  Rich gave a report that there were five Miami County riders:  Miles, Eddie, Rich, Steve Wagner and Jeff Price.  There was only one RAIN rider hit by a deer.  Fur on the handlebars is not good.  Google the RAIN website for pix.

Motion made by Bill and seconded by Sharon and carried unanimously that the miles from the RAIN ride count toward club miles.  The general consensus is to include outside rides that have been advertised to the club with at least four members participating towards club miles.  To be voted on at next meeting.

Gary ’s Ride:  Aug 11 in Plainfield , IN.   Due to conflicts, no one present at the meeting was planning to ride this benefit for a state trooper who was killed while participating in a charity ride last year.  Registration can be done day of.

Cornfest Ride:  Aug 18 in Huntington sponsored by the Youth Services Bureau.

United Way Kick-off event:  Aug 18 at the Peru River Walk.  Ride is in town for a few miles.  Contact Shannon See or Breakaway Bike Shop for more info.

Sizzler Ride:  Aug 19 in Kokomo , check out Breakaway Club for more info.

Wabash River Century:  Aug 25 at Lafayette we think.

Nickel Plate Fat Tire ride:  Sunday, Aug 26 at 1:00 PM in place of our normal club ride.  Start at Miami ’s Fort and ride the Nickel Plate south to Bunker Hill, Bennetts Switch, Miami and back.

2nd Annual Mighty Mississinewa Triathlon:  September 8.  Larry Brown of the DNR at the reservoir asked me to advise our club of this event.  I sent out the flyer as an attachment earlier.  They also have a free kids fun run for ages up to 14.  For more info, e-mail Larry at lbrown@dnr.in.gov.

Tour de Crossroads:  Sept 22 in West Lafayette .  Flat 15, challenging 40, 50 and 62-mile routes.  See my e-mail sent late July for the attachment or website:  http://www.tourdecrossroads.org or e-mail:  tourdecrossroads@mac.com.

Hilly Hundred:  Oct 12-14.  Miles has invited club members to camp at his sister’s house near McCormick’s Creek State Park .  Miles plans to be at his sister Marge’s house around 5:00 PM for a ride in the park, drive to pick up ride packages and then dinner.  Registration is $40.00 until Aug 31 until it goes up to $52.00.  Rich, John, Sharon are planning on camping and Wally has registered.

Spaghetti ride:  Eddie Garcia is hosting a Tuesday ride originating from Eagles Pointe.  Location is 2407 Lowry Avenue, Peru or at the Quick Mart at Eagles Pointe.  Start time is 5:30 PM.  It is a 29- mile route thru Pipe Creek.  End time is 7:30 PM with spaghetti dinner courtesy of the Garcia’s if you RSVP.

Nickel Plate Trail:  See the info sent along with the e-mail.  Miles has sent out in US Postal (didn’t that used to be a bike team?) a letter to the club enlisting support for the trail.  If you haven’t received a copy, please e-mail Miles or myself and we will send one to you.

Regular club rides:  Regular club ride times are in effect but see Aug 26 NPT.

Discussion:  Club would like to do Wabash County Trail and Cardinal Trail in preparation for the Hilly Hundred.

Next meeting: Second Thursday at 7:30 PM (September 13) at First Christian Church.

Meeting adjourned at approximately 8:50 PM.

John Miller

Secretary
