Date:  Thursday, March 15, 2007

President Miles Straly called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.

Attendance:   Miles Straly, Zac and Shannon See, Rich Holler, Ed Garcia, Steve Wagner, Bill Click and John Miller.

Secretary’s Report:  Minutes were e-mailed previously from February meeting.

Treasurer’s Report:  Zac said there was an approximate balance of $5,200.00.  The bill from Peru Schools was received recently and paid.

Miami County Trail:  Miles will try to reschedule a meeting (snowed out) with the new Chamber of Commerce director Sandy Chittum and Mildred Coppes from the museum to produce a flyer for the Miami County Trail.  The consensus was to have two separate loops: one north and one south.  Sites to be included were discussed.  Members interested in attending this meeting should let Miles know.

Club rides:  The ride schedule is as follows:

Saturday:  8:00 AM from Breakaway Bike Shop in Peru

Sunday:    1:00 PM from Owen’s Marathon in Mexico

Thursday:  5:00 PM from Miami ’s Fort in Peru

The first rides of the season for each day will be Saturday April 1st, Thursday April 5th and Sunday April 15th (Easter is April 8th).

John handed out maps for the Monon Trail in Indy and a Saturday ride is to be scheduled.  Just as an FYI, the Indiana Bicycle Trail passes through Onward, IN at about 500 South.  There was discussion about riding the Cardinal Greenway again from Marion to Muncie and possibly on to Richmond .

Fat Tire Ride:  The next Fat Tire Ride will be this spring at Huntington , date to be determined.  There was a discussion to ride mountain bikes on sections of the Nickel Plate Trail that are yet to be paved.  One ride would be from Denver south to Lovers Lane .  Another fat tire excursion would be Seven Pillars to Okiedokie.

Nickel Plate Trail:  No real update but it may be helpful to educate trail users about the “Leave No Trace” policy especially when it comes to dogs.

Club Jerseys :  Zac informed the club that the bike shop would have good quality cycling jerseys with the traditional club logo on them available the first or second week of June for approximately $50.00.  Other items available will be socks and caps.

Upcoming Events:  KIDS FAIR BIKE RODEO is at the Miami County Fairgrounds on May 5th from 10:00-2:00 with the bike auction at 9:00 AM.  The BMX flatlanders trick bike riders will be there again this year and many fun activities are scheduled for the kids (including bicycle safety training).  A motion was made by John and seconded by Zac and carried unanimously that the club donate $350.00 again this year to provide helmets to kids at no charge.   Volunteers to help fit helmets or repair bikes should contact Zac at Breakaway.

Community bike ride Shannon advised the club that the Mayor’s Wellness Council is sponsoring a community bike ride on April 28 at 1:00 PM.  The start will be at the K-Mart parking lot and the ride will be on the Nickel Plate Trail.  Refreshments will be served afterwards at Exotic Tan.

Mini-triathlon:  Shannon informed the club that the Mayor’s Wellness Council is planning a mini-triathlon on June 16th to include the swim at Miller’s Pool and run and bicycle from Maconaquah Park .  If you have questions re either of the two Mayor’s Wellness Council events, please contact Shannon at Breakaway or e-mail her at sstoner@hotmail.com
